The Ride of Pride

April 26, 2015- 10:30 am

BROKEN TOGETHER

At Extremechurch we are building REAL Community with one another, but we understand the difficulty with Authenticity and Trust in our Culture today. We are a No Perfect People Allowed Church, and church should truly be an honest journey about being Broken Together. On this side of Heaven, as Christ Followers we will always struggle with sin, and it is this honest approach to life with others that we desperately need in our church family. The Struggle is Real, and so is the Solution. It is time that we experience the REAL Community that Jesus has called us to be a part of, take off the mask, stop pretending, and become BROKEN TOGETHER.

The Ride of Pride

Pastor Jerry Jackson

OUTLINE

GOOD PRIDE =

BAD PRIDE =

THE DAMAGE THE RIDE OF PRIDE DOES

1. IT CAUSES CONFLICT

Proverbs 13:10 (NIV)

“Pride only breeds quarrels.”

Proverbs 28:25 (KJV)

“He that is of a proud heart stirs up strife.”

Matthew 7:5 (NIV)

“Take the log out of your own eye first, and then you will be able to see and take the speck out of your brother’s eye.”

2. IT PREVENTS PERSONAL GROWTH

Proverbs 11:2 (NLT)

“Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom”

Proverbs 10:17 (LB)

“Anyone willing to be corrected is on the pathway to life. Anyone refusing has lost his chance.”

3. IT PRODUCES ANXIETY

Proverbs 29:25 (GN)

“It is dangerous to be concerned with what others think of you…”

Proverbs 20:27 (GN)

“The Lord gave us a mind and conscience. We cannot hide from ourselves.”

4. IT ANGERS GOD

Leviticus 26:19 (NIV)

“I will break down your stubborn pride and make the sky above you like iron and the ground beneath you like bronze.”

James 4:6 (NIV)

“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

HOW TO LIVE HUMBLY AND BROKEN

James 4:10 (NIV)

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.”

1. ADMIT MY SINS HONESTLY

Proverbs 28:13 (LB)

“A man who refuses to admit his mistakes can never be successful. But if he confesses and forsakes them, he gets another chance.”

2. EVALUATE MY STRENGTHS REALISTICALLY

Romans 12:3 (Ph)

“Don’t cherish exaggerated ideas of yourself or your importance, but try to have a sane estimate of your capabilities…”

Galatians 6:4 (NIV)

“Each man should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself without comparing himself to somebody else.”

3. ENJOY MY SUCCESSES GRATEFULLY

1 Corinthians 4:7 (LB)

“What are you so puffed up about? What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if all you have is from God, why act as though you have accomplished something on your own?”

4. SERVE OTHERS UNSELFISHLY

Philippians 2:3-5 (NIV)

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility, consider others better than yourselves… Look not only to your own interests, but also the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Jesus Christ.”

5. DEPEND ON JESUS CONTINUALLY

Psalms 10:4 (NCV)

“Wicked people are proud. They do not look for God; there is no room for God in their thoughts.”

Proverbs 22:4 (NLT)

“True humility and fear of the Lord lead to riches, honor, and long life.”
