Sermon Description:
“I don’t go to church, because the church is full of hypocrites.” – Ima Hippokrit
The truth is there is always room for one more hypocrite in church.
Hypocrisy, it’s one of the biggest hurdles that keep people from church, and one that people use to keep their distance from God. But the truth is that hypocrisy is more than a barrier when it comes to faith. It’s something we all deal with every day.
As hypocrites we say one thing and do another and our lips and our Christian lives are out of synch. In this sermon, Pastor Jerry encourages us as Christ Followers to synch our lips with our Christian walk and gives 3 practical solutions on how to defeat hypocrisy.

OUTLINE
“I don’t go to church, because the church is full of hypocrites.” – Ima Hippokrit
HYPOCRISY –
WHEN MY LIPS ARE OUT OF SYNCH WITH MY CHRISTIAN LIFE
WHEN I SAY ONE THING AND DO ANOTHER
WHEN MY WALK DOESN’T MATCH MY TALK
HYPOCRITE QUIZ
WE MUST BE HONEST AND EMBRACE THE FACT THAT WE ARE ALL HYPOCRITES
WHO WERE THE PHARISEES?
HYPOCRITES ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE OUTSIDE
GOD IS CONCERNED ON WHAT IS ON THE INSIDE
Matthew 23:25-27 (NIV)
25 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. 26 Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean. 27 ‘Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean.’”
THE SOLUTION – LIVE BY THE SPIRIT
Galatians 5:24-26 (NIV)
24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
HYPOCRITES LIVE TO JUDGE OTHERS RATHER THAN TO LOVE OTHERS
Matthew 23:1-3 (NIV)
1 “Then Jesus said to the crowds and to His disciples: 2 ‘The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.’”
THE SOLUTION – LET GOD JUDGE PEOPLE’S HEARTS AND ETERNAL MATTERS – WE ALLOW THE SPIRIT TO GIVE US DISCERNMENT TO MAKE DECISIONS
Luke 6:36-38 (NIV)
36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. 37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
1 CORINTHIANS 5:12(NIV)
12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church? 13But those who are outside, God judges.
HYPOCRITES EXAGGERATE THEIR GOOD DEEDS AND THEIR REWARD IS GIVEN TO THEM HERE ON THE EARTH
Matthew 6:2 (NIV)
“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.”
THE SOLUTION – LIVE FOR GOD’S BLESSINGS AND STORE UP YOUR TREASURES IN HEAVEN
Matthew 6:17-20 (NIV)
17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
