SHAPED to Be the Church

Pastors Jerry Jackson and John Ward

02.08.15

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (RSV)

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NLV)

Do you not know that your body is a house of God where the Holy Spirit lives? God gave you His Holy Spirit. Now you belong to God. You do not belong to yourselves. God bought you with a great price. So honor God with your body. You belong to Him.

Romans 12:2

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

AS A CHRIST FOLLOWER, GOD WANTS ME TO BE THE CHURCH, AND USE MY SHAPE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

1 Corinthians 15:58(NIV)

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

1 Peter 1:3

God has given us the privilege of being born again so that we are now members of God’s own family.

OUR VISION AT EXTREME COMMUNITY CHURCH: EXTREME LOVE, EXTREME LIFE, EXTREME IMPACT FOR CHRIST

OUR MISSION IS TO LOVE GOD, LOVE OTHERS, AND HELP OTHERS DO THE SAME: LIVE LOUD, LOVE ALL

Ephesians 2:10

It is God Himself who has made us what we are and given us new lives from Christ Jesus. Long ages ago He planned that we should spend these lives in doing what He’s made us to do.

1 Corinthians 12:5

There are different kinds of service and together you form the body of Christ. Each one of you is a necessary part of it.

HOW DO I BECOME THE CHURCH AND WHAT IS MY PART?

BUILD A STRONG FOUNDATION

Luke 6:46-49

46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ but do not do what I say? 47 I will show you what everyone is like who comes to me and hears my words and obeys. 48 That person is like a man building a house who dug deep and laid the foundation on rock. When the floods came, the water tried to wash the house away, but it could not shake it, because the house was built well. 49 But the one who hears my words and does not obey is like a man who built his house on the ground without a foundation. When the floods came, the house quickly fell and was completely destroyed.”

WHEN WE BUILD OUR CHURCH AND YOUR LIFE ON GOD’S WORD, YOUR FOUNDATION, YOUR FAMILY WILL BE STRONG!!!!!

Psalms 127:1-2

Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves.

MAKING AN IMPACT

Luke 15:3-7 3

So Jesus told them this story: 4 “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it? 5 And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders. 6 When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!

WHEN WE MAKE AN IMPACT IN A PERSON’S LIFE, THERE IS MORE JOY IN HEAVEN FOR THAT ONE LOST SINNER WHO REPENTS AND RETURNS TO GOD.

BE ENCOURAGED

Joshua 1:6-9 6

“Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. 7 Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. 8 Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. 9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

ENCOURAGE MEANS “TO PUT COURAGE” SO WHEN WE ENCOURAGE EACH OTHER, WE “PUT COURAGE” IN OUR HEARTS, IN OUR MINDS AND WE BELIEVE THAT WITH GOD I CAN DO THIS….

TRUST MORE

Luke 16:10 10

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. As I have been praying for our church, this verse keeps coming to my heart and I truly believe that God will do this very thing for us…

WHEN GOD SEE’S WE CAN BE TRUSTED IN LITTLE, HE WILL TRUST US WITH MORE

CHOOSE OBEDIENCE OVER CONVENIENCE

John 14:15

Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commands.”

Luke 11:28

Jesus replied, “But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.”

LOOK FOR OPPORTUNITIES TO LOVE AND SERVE

Colossians 3:14-16 (TLB)

14 Most of all, let love guide your life, for then the whole church will stay together in perfect harmony. 15 Let the peace of heart that comes from Christ be always present in your hearts and lives, for this is your responsibility and privilege as members of his body. And always be thankful. 16 Remember what Christ taught, and let his words enrich your lives and make you wise; teach them to each other and sing them out in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing to the Lord with thankful hearts.
