TRANSFORMED

GUIDED BY GODLY GOALS TO FOCUS MY LIFE

Pastor Jerry Jackson

01.04.15

OUTLINE

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (RSV)

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NLV)

Do you not know that your body is a house of God where the Holy Spirit lives? God gave you His Holy Spirit. Now you belong to God. You do not belong to yourselves. God bought you with a great price. So honor God with your body. You belong to Him.

Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

” TRANSFORMATION - GIVING GOD ALL OF ME IN 2015 BEGINS WITH SETTING GOALS WHY IS SETTING GODLY GOALS SO IMPORTANT?

1. GOALS KEEP ME FOCUSED ON ACCOMPLISHING WHAT’S MOST IMPORTANT

Philippians 3:12-15

“I know that I am not yet what God wants me to be. I haven’t reached that goal, but I keep moving toward it to make it mine because Christ made me and saved me for this. I know that I haven’t yet reached my goal, but there’s one thing I always do: Forgetting the past and straining toward what is ahead, I keep my eyes focused on THE GOAL so that I may one day win the prize that God has called me to receive through Christ in the life above. All of you who are spiritually mature should think this same way, too.”

2. GOALS PRIORITIZE MY TIME AND MY ENERGY

1 Corinthians 9:26

“I do not run without a goal. I fight like a boxer who is hitting something—not just the air.”

3. GOALS BUILD CHRISTLIKE CHARACTER IN MY LIFE

Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)

“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!”

Romans 5:3-4 (NCV)

“We also have joy with our troubles, because we know that these troubles produce patience. And patience produces character, and character produces hope.”

4. GOALS HELP ME AVOID MISSION DRIFT

1 Corinthians 9:25 (NLT)

“All athletes practice strict self-control. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run straight to THE GOAL with purpose in every step.”

5. GOALS HELP ME PROGRESS AND MOVE FORWARD

Philippians 3:12 (CEV)

I have not yet reached my goal, and I am not perfect. But Christ has taken hold of me. So I keep on running and struggling to take hold of the prize.

THE GOALS GOD BLESSES

1. A GOAL(S) THAT HONORS HIM

1 Corinthians 6:20 (CEV)

“God paid a great price for you. So use your body to honor God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31 “When you eat or drink or do anything, always do it to honor God.”

2 Corinthians 5:9 (NIV)

“We make it our goal to please him...”

2. A GOAL(S) THAT IS MOTIVATED BY LOVE

1 Corinthians 16:14 (NLT)

“Everything you do must be done with love”

1 Corinthians 14:1 (NLT)

“Let love be your highest goal”

3. A GOAL(S) THAT REQUIRES TOTAL DEPENDENCE ON HIM

Proverbs 16:9 (Mes)

“We plan the way we want to live, but only God makes us able to live it.”

Zechariah 4:6 (NCV)

“You will not succeed by your own strength or power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord.”

When Joshua was given the goal to possess the Promised Land

Joshua 1:8 (NAB)

“Keep this Book of the law on your lips. Recite it by day and by night, that you may carefully follow all that is written in it; then you will successfully attain your goal.”

Ecclesiastes 4:12

“By yourself you're unprotected. But with a friend you can face the worst. And a group of three is even better, because a rope braided with three strands is not easily snapped!”
