Prayer Positions: Are they expressions of the

attitude of our hearts?


I.  Lying Prostrate Before God
     A.  It is the reality and acknowledgement of

           our total unworthiness (Gen 17:1–22)
     B.  It is recognition of the need for God’s mercy

           (Luke 5:12.)
     C.  It is a right response to a serious crisis.

           (Num 20:2–6, Josh 7:1–6)
 

II.  Kneeling Before God (Mark 1:40)
     A.  It acknowledges the Lordship of

           Jesus Christ (Phil 2:9–11)
     B.  It is a sign of love and earnest appeal

           (I Kings 8:54, 18:41–46)
     C.  It is a sign of us lowering our personal

           humility (Psalm 95:6)
 

III.  Bowing Before the Lord (Job 1:20–21)    
     A.  It is a sign of reverence 
     B.  It is a standard position in the expression

           of worship (Genesis 24:52)
 

IV.  Standing Before the Lord (Gen 24:12-14)
     A.  It’s standing in honor of our position

           in Christ’s righteousness. (Romans 5:1–2)
     B.  It symbolizes our preparation for battle 

           (Ephesians 6:13–18)
     C.  It shows readiness to serve 

           (Daniel 1:5, Romans 6:18)
 

V.  Sitting Before the Lord (Jud 20:26)
     A.  It reminds us that all believers are seated

           with Christ in heaven

           (Eph 1:15–23 and 2:4–7)
     B.   It represents God’s call to forgive offenders

           (Matt 6:14–15) (Eph 4:31–32)
 

VI.  Looking Up to Heaven (John 17:1)
     A.   It demonstrates where our help comes

            from (Psalm 121:1–2)
     B.   It displays confident faith (John 11:41–42)
     C.   It directs our attention toward intimate

            fellowship with God (John 17:1–2)
 

VII.  Stretching Forth the Arm (I Tim 2:1–4, 8)
     A.   It appeals to God’s sovereign power

            (Ex 9:29, Ex 17:11)
     B.   It reflects God’s redeeming work and His

            propitiation for our salvation (Deut 7:18–19)
     C.   It demonstrates worship and petitions

            God’s blessing (I Kings 8:22–23, 28–29)
 

VIII.  Leaping for Joy (Matt 5:12)
     A.   It displays absolute confidence in God’s

            faithfulness (II Cor 4:17–18)
     B.   It confirms that eternal things are our

            highest priority (Rom8:18, Phil 4:6–7)
 

IX.  Prayer Walking (Joshua 1:3)
     A.  Prayer that is up close and personal
     B.  Pattern of claiming and seeking Gods

           intervention (Joshua 6)
     C.  Powerful as it is usually done in small

           groups who are agreeing upon a kingdom

           agenda together (Mat 18:19)
