Peace and Honor
Pastor Jerry Jackson
12.21.14
There is no doubt we live in a very chaotic world where hate and evil seems to dominate the headlines. Everywhere you look more and more people are showing dishonor and discord for others. It’s truly UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATER run amuck.
Most people would agree that we desperately need peace and honor in our world, and most importantly in our lives today. By learning from the Angels, Shepherds, and Wise Men, Pastor Jerry helps us discover how we can have peace and honor in our lives if we apply one of the most important parts of the Christmas story in Luke 2:13-14.
LUKE 2:13-14 13
Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.”

OUTLINE
CHRISTMAS IS ABOUT PEACE AND HONOR
WE DESPERATELY NEED TO BRING PEACE AND HONOR BACK INTO OUR LIVES
LUKE 2:13-15
13 Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.”
15 When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, “Let’s go to Bethlehem! Let’s see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
HOW DO WE PLEASE GOD?
BY BEING ¬HONEST AND REPENTANT ABOUT SIN
ROMANS 3:21-27 21
But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. 22 We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. 23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. 24 Yet God freely and graciously declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. 25 For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, 26 for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he declares sinners to be right in his sight when they believe in Jesus. 27 Can we boast, then, that we have done anything to be accepted by God? No, because our acquittal is not based on obeying the law. It is based on faith. 28 So we are made right with God through faith and not by obeying the law.
1 JOHN 1:8-9 8
If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. 9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
BY TRUSTING AND RELYING GOD
HEBREWS 11:6
It is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.
ROMANS 10:9-10 9
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.
BY HONORING GOD WITH MY WORSHIP AND LOVE
MATTHEW 2:10-11
10 When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! 11 They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
MARK 12:29-31 29
Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The LORD our God is the one and only LORD. 30 And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ 31 The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”
1 JOHN 4:8
8 But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
