Destruction of Babylon

March 26, 2014- :

Thy Grace is Sufficient (Pastor Donnie Edwards)

God's word tells us that His grace is sufficient in 2 Cor 12:9. Have you ever wondered what that verse really meant or how grace works in the everyday life of the believer? Have you wondered and desired to have a deeper knowledge into the grace of God? Join us as we study through the book of Isaiah and see Gods grace in action through the lives of the children of Israel. This study will also reveal prophecy that has been fulfilled as well as those that are being fulfilled in the time t which we live. The promise of grace that will be extended to the Church in the New Testament age comes with many blessings and promises that we will uncover in the coming weeks and months. This study will enrich your knowledge of Grace but also equip you in every day trials of life to how we can go to God and know that He is there to help us, love us and extend grace to us as we walk this pathway of faith.

Join us each Sunday morning at 9:00 am or you can catch us on radio station at 7:00pm / TV each Sunday night at 8:00pm and Wednesday night at 7:00pm.

Sermon Notes:

Thy Grace is Sufficient Part 10

"Destruction of Babylon"

Isaiah 13

Isa 13:1

1. Burden could be translated judgment and this chapter is about the judgment of Babylon both in the time line of Old Testament but also the prophetic time in the last days of great tribulation period.

2. Isaiah finished his prophetic career in 685 B.C., almost 100 years before Judah finally fell before the Babylonian Empire (586 B.C.). At the time of this prophecy, Babylon was a significant nation, but they were definitely behind the Assyrian Empire in status.

3. Read information on Babylon and Iraq on hand out 1.

Isa 13:2--8

1. Read Daniel 5 tells of Cyrus defeating Babylon by the Medes and Persian

2. Share the timeline with congregation

3. 586BC this was fulfilled

Isa 13:9-11

1. Tribulation Period and Babylon will be rebuilt figuratively, spiritually but not

physically

2. Matt 24 tells of the these same events

3. Babylon is mentioned 287 times in the Scriptures, more than any other city except Jerusalem. Babylon was a literal city on the Euphrates river; right after the flood (Genesis 11:1-10), Babylon "Was the seat of the civilization that expressed organized hostility to God." (Tenney, Interpreting Revelation). Babylon was later the capitol of the empire that cruelly conquered Judah. "Babylon, to them (the Jews), was the essence of all evil, the embodiment of cruelty, the foe of God's people, and the lasting type of sin, carnality, lust and greed." (Tenney) To those familiar with the Old Testament, the name Babylon is associated with organized idolatry, blasphemy and the persecution of God's people. In the New Testament, the worlds system of the last days is characterized both religiously and commercially as Babylon (Revelation 17 and 18). Therefore, Babylon is a "Suitable representation … of the idolatrous, pagan world-system in opposition to God."

Isa 13:12

1. This is a messianic prophecy of Jesus

Isa 13:13-16

1. This speaks of the anti Christ and those who follow him that come against Israel at the 31/2 year mark. There will seem to be a time of rising for Babylon spiritually, finically, militarily, but it will come unraveled when the Jews see what is really going on.

2. Them identifies those who have taken the mark of the beast and formed alliance with the Anti Christ both nation and individual.

Isa 13:17-22

1. Many nations have been destroyed and rebuilt but Babylon has not and never will be a physical structure again as a nation but only figuratively.

2. Never will be inhabited

3. Demons and satanic influence in the area and region

4. Dragons speaks about dictators and evil
